FIGHT THE FLU

WellCheck and Simon Property Partner to Offer Convenient and Affordable Flu Shots at Malls Nationwide

In the United States alone, an estimated 25–50 million cases of the flu are reported each year, leading to nearly 150,000 hospitalizations and 40,000 deaths. For millions of Americans, the flu is completely avoidable with a simple shot. But in recent years, flu shot shortages have left many Americans “defenseless”.

In response to this season’s expected soaring demand for flu shots, healthcare provider WellCheck and Simon Property Group - the largest real estate company in the U.S. - will debut an innovative new approach of pop-up “flu defense clinics” to help families get vaccinated. Offering the ultimate in convenience, consumers can visit www.wellcheck.com to reserve their vaccine, guaranteeing a flu shot will be waiting for them when they visit their local mall. WellCheck will be operating 150 flu defense clinics in 35 states beginning the weekend of September 18, and running every weekend through October 24. Open to patients 4 years old and above.

With the onset of H1N1 last year, millions of people flocked to their doctor for a flu shot. However, due to the shortage, many were left unvaccinated, including young children, the elderly and pregnant women, for whom the flu can be debilitating and even fatal. To mitigate risk, the CDC’s has recently issued a universal recommendation suggesting that everyone six months and older get a flu shot as soon as vaccine become available.

The new all-in-one vaccine will protect consumers from many of this season’s flu viruses including H1N1, influenza B virus, and the newest flu strain, H3N2. WellCheck clinics will provide the “all-in-one” vaccine. This flu shot provides an effective method of protection that lasts throughout the entire flu season, so the earlier people get immunized, the better.

“We anticipate a high demand for flu shots this season and with families busier than ever, we are making it easier for them to defend themselves,” said Jack Tawil, CEO of WellCheck. “With our new online flu shot reservation system and Simon’s nationwide locations, we’re able to give consumers access to affordable flu vaccines at locations most convenient to them and guarantee their shots will be there when they arrive.”

People concerned about long lines and flu shot shortages can rest easy with the option to reserve and pay for a flu shot online at www.wellcheck.com. A priority access line at the clinics ensures expeditious treatment.

Offering a full circle of protection, the all-in-one flu vaccine is $28.00 per person. Cash, credit cards and Simon Mall gift cards are accepted. Government issued Medicare will also be accepted with no out-of-pocket cost. Most insurance companies will also reimburse consumers for their vaccination.

For a complete list of all WellCheck clinic locations and to reserve a flu shot, please visit www.wellcheck.com or call 1-888-OK WELLCHECK for any questions.

So WHAT is the FLU?

Flu refers to the contagious respiratory illness caused by a number of different flu viruses. Flu can cause a range of symptoms and effects, from mild to lethal. There are three strains of flu currently circulating in the United States; Influenza B, the H1N1 (Swine) flu and the newest strain, H3N2.

The CDC advised that the 2010-2011 vaccine will contain all three strains, making the vaccine an all-in-one shot.

The Flu CAN Happen to YOU

In the U.S., an estimated 25–50 million cases of the flu are currently reported each year — leading to 150,000 hospitalizations and 30,000–40,000 deaths yearly.
Currently, in a typical year, 5% to 20% of the United States population gets the seasonal flu.

Who Should Get Vaccinated?

The CDC’s universal recommendation suggests that everyone 6 months and older should get an all-in-one flu vaccine this year.
 Young children, the elderly and pregnant women are in the highest risk.

When to Get Vaccinated

Yearly flu vaccination should begin as soon as the vaccine is available and continue throughout the flu season (into December, January and beyond), as timing and duration of flu seasons vary.
